Individual counseling and psychotherapy
These methods comprise systematic modes of treatment using psychological methods with the aim to eliminate or at least mitigate certain psychic or psychosomatic disorders and problems the client. The choice of a suitable approach is up to the therapist and is usually based on prior psychological diagnostic examinations.
The counselor or therapist recommends individual psychotherapy especially in the following cases:
- Neurotic disorders and problems (e.g., phobia, anxiety, depression, uncertainty, panic)
- Problems of self-control, emotional control, and stress
- Problems with workoholism and certain other addictive behavior
- Problems with low self-esteem
- Problems related to partnership (e.g., reaction to infidelity or partner’s extramarital relationship, own or partner’s jealousy, domestic violence)
- Problems related to family relationships (e.g., children’s upbringing, extended family relationships)
- Certain sexual disorders and problems
Depending on the therapist/counselor’s specialization – clients undergo the following forms of therapy:
- Psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy
- Behavioral therapy
- Systemic and integrated (or combined) psychotherapeutic approaches to client guiding
- Relaxation
- Hypnosis
